News coverage is one of the most challenging areas in modern broadcasting. Often, dozens of stations compete in being the first to air the latest breaking new event. Television newscast (especially when LIVE) requires a fast and flexible delivery mechanism, without compromising on the graphics quality. Graphics form the backbone of news presentations– they provide a structured display of data, alert information, background facts, wire/data-feed statistics etc. in an intelligible manner to its viewers. At any given time, the amount of information that needs to go on-air, far exceeds the capability of current graphics systems – the issues ranging from the inability to handle multiple sources of data inputs, multiple playout points, networked access and control of graphics content, to the limitations of existing workflow capabilities

nX News provides a complete package of standard news templates providing the power of graphics automation, allowing non-graphics personnel to deliver on-air graphics on the fly. The networked content input stations allows everyone on the network to contribute data, by choosing the appropriate graphics published by the artists, and appending the variable graphics data. Data entries can be inserted locally by the operator or alternatively linked to external databases for live data feeds. Once published these pages become available to those involved in the news production chain such as editors and journalists, and are then ready for live production using the custom built playout controllers.

Rundowns are easily created either locally by the operator, or whenever an automated newsroom system is in place, access to the published templates is done from within the newsroom system (such as ENPS, iNews, OCTOPUS Newsroom, Dalet etc.) itself. This allows the journalist to continue working within a familiar environment; the journalist can call up the page, enter relevant data for the story, preview it on a local machine and once satisfied with the outcome, the story can be sent either for authorization or directly to the newsroom rundown.

Once the newsroom rundown is updated, the rundown within the Controller is automatically updated as well. Even during a production when the need arises for last minute changes, it is sufficient to update the newsroom rundown, which causes an automatic update of the TV news graphics’ rundown as well.

Developing the complete News Graphics workflow can be quite a challenging task. The Labs team can provide you with custom solutions based on their vast experience on the same and help you get into the action right from the start.
